Object Contest 2022

The "object" category was added to the Wiki shortly after its initial establishment and featured in its first batch such classics as "crowbar", "gas mask", "camera", and "flashlight". The original objects were so poorly received that, just a few months after their inception, there was an organized mass deletion that removed nearly half of the objects on the site. We've grown a lot since those early days, but the "object" category is still the least-written for category of articles on the site, with few outstandingly well-written articles to its name. We would like to change that, so we're proud to introduce the 2022 Object Contest!

Rules:

  • The goal of this contest is for people to create high-quality object pages. You may do whatever you want with your page as long as it's posted as an object.
  • You may submit up to three articles for this contest. After getting feedback from the community, we have decided to change the limit to one.
  • The score of each article will be based purely on their rating at the end of the voting period.
  • Editing your articles after they are posted is allowed, if needed.
  • Contest entries will not require greenlights to be posted, even if you do not normally have a greenlight exemption.
  • You may use the code "objectcon2022" to post entries for the duration of the contest. Use of this code for other coldposts will be met with disciplinary action.
  • Any attempts to give yourself an unfair advantage will result in disqualification. What counts as this will be decided by staff on a case-by-case basis. If you aren't sure if something counts as this, please ask staff.
  • All entries must be posted during the designated "Posting Period". Any articles posted before or after this period will not count as entries in the contest.
  • Please tag your entries with "objectcon2022". All articles tagged as such will automatically show up on this page.
  • Please set the parent page of your article to this page for the duration of the contest by going to + Options > Parent on your page. Staff will remove the parent after the voting period has ended.
  • The top 3 winners will each get to pick an article in the November feature cycle. An additional feature may be added if there is a tie.
  • Collaborative works are allowed; if a collaborative work wins, the collaborators will pick the feature together. A collaborative article will count as each collaborator's one allowed submission.
  • The Object 100-999 slots will be opened following the completion of this contest's voting period, and the contestants will get to pick one of the newly opened object slots of their choice, starting with the highest-rated contestants and descending to the lowest-rated contestant.
  • Since part of the contest's prizes will be winning certain slots, post your page with a url in the format "/objectcon2022-USERNAME" where "USERNAME" is replaced by your username. Staff will move the url to the proper slot after the completion of the contest.
  • It's suggested that you use the number you're hoping to get as a placeholder number in your article. Staff will edit the page to display the correct number if the article ends up in a different slot.
  • Please put at least the top 5 number slots you would like your article to have in the comments of your author post. This may include any number from 100-999 as well as open slots under 100. Failure to do this may result in your article getting a random number.
  • Staff is currently holding the Object 1 slot for an Almond Water rewrite. However, in the case that no Almond Water rewrite is completed by the end of September, the Object 1 slot will be open for articles from this contest, so you may include "1" in the list of slots you would like to claim. The Object 1 slot will not be open for the contest, as the Almond Water rewrite was completed on time.

Dates:

  • August 6th-October 3rd (8 Weeks)1 — Writing Period: During this time, no articles may be posted, but you should work on writing and perfecting your articles.
  • October 4th-October 17th (2 Weeks) — Posting Period: During this time, all articles submitted for the contest will be posted. You may still work on writing during this period.
  • October 18th-October 31st (2 Weeks) — Voting Period: During this time, no more articles may be posted. This period exists so that articles that are added later can still rack up points.

All contest dates are based on "Anywhere on Earth", meaning that if the Posting Period is active in any time zone, posting is allowed for everyone.

One Final Word of Advice:

Remember that this contest is just for fun. It's okay to be a little competitive, but don't let it get to the point where it lessens your or someone else's enjoyment of the contest!
