HERE LIES THE HONORABLE VELENDA INEZ, 1998-

A prepared grave for a single person.
It may as well already be filled with the image in my head.
Burned into the back of my mind, I see their face.
Staring into my eyes, I breathe for air, then scream.

I am not loud, I am not rude.
I see the name Velenda, and I nearly freak.
I see nights on the rooftops, where we’d brush each other's streaks.
I see days in coffee shops, drinking and sharing a bagel for 3.

A sample of my heart, thrown aside and away.
I look back on those memories, of their perfect face.
The way they compose themselves, their beauty is beyond me.
Well, I hope whoever is new gets those same butterflies.

A cup of mocha, taste the chocolate within the cup.
Steaming cream, a cradled heart.
A sense of finality, draining to the bottom.
An empty vessel fueled by the will to start (again).

Sure, we both lived prosaic lives,
And maybe I’m thinking about this to much,
But even in this moment, when everything is going perfectly fine,
Nothing really feels okay, and that makes the world feel gone, away.

Mourning a living death, so peculiar and distant,
People question my motives, question if I’m real,
I step away, leave a white rose on the ground,
Turn to the theatre, to watch our film again.
