Description:
Kimiko is a mysterious individual with ties to the Masked Maidens. It is currently unknown if her or her group's motives are in good faith, but it is assumed that this is not the case. Kimiko was first brought to the M.E.G.'s attention on July 3rd, 2020, after several members of the M.E.G. team Searchlight of the Life Line regiment reported a sighting on Level 9. At first, Kimiko was to be designated an entity, but as of August 27th, 2020, her classification has been moved to a Person of Interest.
Kimiko appears to have the ability to transform or shapeshift into the likenesses of several people. This ability is not limited to age, but she has only been seen disguising as women or girls with large dresses, presumably to hide her otherwise unconcealable tail. Her qualities and powers appear consistent with the traditional Japanese yōkai called a kitsune. She has also been known to wield control over fire, possessing the capacity to create walls of flame and orbs of blue fire which she uses in place of a flashlight. When in her undisguised form, she has been reported to have a shimmering quality to her figure, much like the distortion that rising heat creates. All attempts at locating or following her have proven unsuccessful due to her having the power to either turn invisible or teleport at will.
In her undisguised form, Kimiko wears a traditional kitsune mask as well as a Japanese red-and-white yukata kimono1 with lily floral patterns. She is short of stature, estimated to be about five feet tall, and wears wooden red zōri sandals on her feet. She has black hair and wears a lily flower pin on the left side of her head. Two large fox ears protrude from the top of her head, and appear to be fully functional. Her tail is large and pure white — this is the most important detail to recognize as it stays consistent even when she is disguised, and can be used to identify her in such a case.
Kimiko has never been seen outside of a level with a significant population of wanderers and M.E.G. personnel. All sightings of her detail an experience where she has disguised as a member of the M.E.G. and attempted to gain information through questioning. While nothing so far has been done with the information she has received, it is still recommended to be on high alert when talking to another M.E.G. member, and to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior.
Information that Kimiko has either asked about or learned about through questioning includes:
- Supply and shipment schedules from the Crimson Forest
- Location of M.E.G. bases Gamma and Omega
- Rumors about the Masked Maidens
- Articles pertaining to the Masked Maidens
- Access to computers and the M.E.G. database
- Teams recently assigned to Level 9 (Team Searchlight)
- Recent news of Japan and the current date
- Names and descriptions of recently recruited M.E.G. employees
- Positions in the M.E.G.
- A detailed description of the M.E.G. logo (presumably to imitate)
- Detailed reports on Object 24

Alongside Kimiko, several other individuals bearing similar masks have been seen around the premises of several M.E.G. bases, especially Rosewood in the Crimson Forest. Reports of objects such as keys or official papers suddenly going missing have increased in proportion to the sightings of these masked individuals, as well as reports of M.E.G. colleagues asking unusual questions and behaving erratically. It can be assumed that the Masked Maidens group is behind these events, and, as such, the M.E.G. has put high priority on analyzing sightings of Kimiko in hopes of discovering a lead to the intentions and methods of these individuals.
Included below are notes on several sightings of Kimiko throughout the Backrooms. It is key to note any significant patterns to her movements.
Report One:

The earliest sighting of Kimiko, besides the initial one by Team Searchlight, occurred on September 14th, 2020, during a survival training session with Coach Adrian Siedler. It is unknown at which point in time Kimiko began to imitate Marianne Trench, but the most likely possibility is that she promptly began to disguise as her after Marianne's initial acceptance into the M.E.G. and before the orientation.
During the time that Kimiko spent masquerading as Marianne Trench, she was given an introductory course on the basic inner workings of the M.E.G., during which Coach Adrian Siedler unknowingly provided her with information such as the locations of several M.E.G. bases. Kimiko also questioned him about the newest recruits other than Marianne Trench, upon which he provided a list to her. It appears Kimiko is still in possession of this list. Siedler eventually noticed Kimiko's unearthly tail, and thus promptly notified the M.E.G.
After she was discovered, the M.E.G. determined to watch her interact with Siedler during the program in order to monitor the information she tried to gather. This continued for three days until she promptly disappeared, and the real Marianne Trench was found in a cupboard unharmed. Trench reports that she does not remember anything leading up to the incident and has since continued to become a promising new recruit.

Kimiko was next sighted in Base Omega posing as Kellen Hawkins, a secretary at the base. Hawkins was originally planning to take a vacation to Level 11 for a week, but appeared to change her mind at the last second and continue working. Lucas Grant noticed this strange decision which, alongside with noticing other unusual signs such as her asking for help with basic technology, compelled him to file a report.
It can be assumed that the real Kellen Hawkins was unaware of this event and was vacationing as planned in Level 11 while Kimiko assumed her identity. Kimiko was able to determine the date when the real Hawkins would return, and left on that date. Hawkins returned from Level 11 as scheduled completely unaware of what had transpired and showed extreme confusion after being questioned about things she had apparently done that she had no knowledge about.
During the week that Kimiko disguised herself as Hawkins, she was able to gain access to vital information, such as the supply schedule of goods from the Crimson Forest and details on M.E.G. teams and their operations. Reviewing the computer's browsing history has revealed that Kimiko actively searched for Life Line Team Searchlight, the Masked Maidens, and Base Rosewood in the Crimson Forest.

This is the sighting in which both Kimiko's name and true undisguised figure were discovered. During a visit to Level 5, the wanderer Joe Collins stumbled upon the likeness of Naomi Megiddo entering a deserted corridor. Collins believed this to be another wanderer and thus followed, though he remained unseen. Collins reported seeing Kimiko transform in front of him from the form of Megiddo to her true self. It is from this report that the M.E.G. was able to reconstruct a representation of her figure.
During this time, Naomi Megiddo was currently stationed in Level 1 in Base Alpha. Several reports from other members of the M.E.G. corroborate the fact that the real Naomi Megiddo was actively working during the time that the sighting took place. Because of this, it is uncertain if Kimiko impersonated Megiddo at any time, and if she did, exactly how long she was able to do so is currently undeterminable. After this event, Megiddo and several other drafting administrators have imposed basic background checks on M.E.G. operatives and encouraged every employee in Base Alpha to secure important files behind passwords.
While in hiding, Collins also reported that he saw a group of masked individuals also wearing kitsune masks convene together along with Kimiko, proving her connection to the Masked Maidens. While the exact words that were said remain unclear, Collins was very helpful in reiterating the events of the meeting to the best of his ability. Attached is a rough transcript of what was said during the meeting.

Kimiko: I'm sorry, Layna. There wasn't an opening. I thought she'd be more isolated, but it turns out she's got eyes on her almost everywhere.
Maidens Member 2, Male: The Madam is expecting intel on the newest files, Kimiko. We can't disappoint her.
Maidens Member 3, Female: Let me guess, you chickened out again once they started asking you to fill out those papers, didn't you?
Maidens Member 2, Male: Maria! That was unwarranted. Be a little more grateful. Kimiko has gone deeper than any of us, and we've even figured out a weak point in the supply line thanks to her.
Kimiko: It's not my fault that you guys still haven't taught me to work a computer properly.
Maidens Member 1, Female: It's okay if you don't succeed the first time, as long as you weren't seen. Were you seen?
Kimiko: Not a chance. You know I'm undetectable.
Maidens Member 2, Male: When will your next attempt be? And will it be Megiddo again?
Kimiko: I'll try again once the opportunity arises, but it'll be a different person this time. Someone more estranged, less involved… more important.
Maidens Member 1, Female: You don't mean…
Kimiko: Shh! I think I heard something. It's probably just a Deathmoth, but still.
Maidens Member 2, Male: Then, is that all for now?
[Kimiko and the others nod in agreement, and start moving towards Collins' hiding place. Collins promptly retreats as quickly as he can.]

M.E.G. NOTICE FROM OVERSEER A
These Masked Maiden sightings have been increasing more and more recently, with the addition of kitsune mask-bearing members popping up, too. I hate to say it, but this is so much bigger than what Andrew told me. I think from now on, we're going to have to work as a team to combat this rising issue. We need a plan.
Based on the people Kimiko impersonated and what she said in that meeting, I'm pretty sure I can see a pattern here. Someone with access to the most vulnerable files — that has to be one of us. The Overseers, I mean. Since she only seems to impersonate women, we need to make sure that Kat remains safe, but who knows? She could come after any one of us. We need to be prepared and on the lookout. For any employee who's reading this, I am currently working with the other Overseers and the drafting administrators in order to come up with a clever way to trap her the next time she tries to infiltrate us. If you see any suspicious behavior, even if you think that it's not a big deal, report it to one of us immediately. If one of us seems to be acting suspicious, don't hesitate! Report that to the others. And most important of all — stay safe everyone.
