"The gods are all siblings, but only in a symbolic sense; not biologically."
I would hope so.

Whoa, it’s a forum signature. Ain’t that cool?

Never been the biggest fan of the pantheon concept, I've always seen it as just a bit of a pointless injection of fantasy content into The Backrooms
Which, to be fair, I'm not entirely opposed to? I mean, we are essentially a writing platform that can have any tone and any theme, which I've always enjoyed. However that doesn't mean that there are a few select things which I don't like if not done right, lol
This just feels like vanilla fantasy shit that could be put into some kind of TV show or movie. I even had a game with a friend where I read to them an explanation of what Pantheon is, minus the names of characters that we knew were from The Backrooms, and attempted to see if we could tell if it was still in a realm of being related to The Backrooms, which unsurprisingly, we couldn't.
Obviously, what "The Backrooms" is differs from person to person, but to me the idea of some fantasy gods all looking like they're pulled straight from the same time period with the same generic fantasy goals and wishes whilst all being humanoid in some way(which yes, I get their avatars, but still) isn't it for me, hence the downvote.
It could very easily be my general distain for generic fantasy talking, I am usually one to call the genre rather bland and generic if it's not done in an interesting way, but I honestly don't like the concept of The Pantheon, and honestly it looks really out of place when put in comparison to some of the other material on-site
Eyy.. i just typed a loada garrbagge
Fun-Fact: The original origins of The Backrooms back when the Wikidot first started and agreed by early Staff was that Gods created The Backrooms and had a Pantheon of sorts! So it does actually stay true to what was original planned during the original "Main Canon". :D
Oooo ancient fun fact!
I'm justice!…What?…No not the blind folded girl!
oh weird! that's actually kinda cool
I still don't like lol /j /lh
Eyy.. i just typed a loada garrbagge
but… nothing is strictly for the Backrooms
I will begin the Kiraiposting shortly
I apologize for the influx of questionable “fanart” this will cause.
i agree with alot of what ella (greggita) has already said, but i do have my own qualms about this tale/group (?)
this is just an exposition dump. its really not an interesting way to portray this information at all, since its just telling you all this lore out of nowhere. (who is even telling this information in the first section? it really does just feel like a lore recap on reddit or some shit) it can be done well, like with icarus when its used to set up a foundation, but you do need an actual story/plot to have your exposition be even remotely interesting. this is one of the blandest ways to set up a story, i wont lie. it gets my downvote.
The author of the first page is the Pillar Scribe (as indicated at the top)
oh, neat! i still think its a boring way to exposition dump
I think it's unusual and unique in terms of Backrooms content, but I know some people don't like this kind of thing
Most people's issues seem to be with how it was written and not what was written in it
Meh… I just think it's like, unoriginal.
I would feel the same toward tarot-based entities or something like that tbh.
You can have a pantheon and idk, calling it "the council" or some other stuff, to at least TRY to make it appear more worked on.
I don't like the gods either, just a bit too bland. Like, there's nothing for me to care about them.
Would need a rework.
Not a fan of this page. It read like an exposition dump and honestly a lot of the parts just made my eyes glaze over. Like…this is pretty subjective criticism but this article just bored me. It, as stated before, just felt like a big explanation dump. Piece of info after piece of info with no real rhyme or reason behind it aside from needing to explain those things for the article.
yaknow what? these people are haters and they can't appreciate the work you put into this! I personally love this and think it's neat, so there (⌐■_■)🤟
Also, I love how you have different pages with different themes. really makes me feel like I'm traveling through a liberary looking for answers or something like that
It's not "haters". It's not hate. It's called criticism. This is a writing community. We thrive off of crit. Ignoring it in this way is stupid. Like…..being receptive towards downvotes is important. Comments like this piss me off because they just represent what's so wrong with how people act in regards to downvotes. People just mindlessly upvote pages and then actively complain when people downvote.
I second what epic said. I don't hate anything, I am criticizing it. I don't downvote for no reason, but I won't upvote bcs of "oh cool idea durr". It has to have quality.
I exist for the sole purpose of writing this
the page was edited so i changed to a no-vote.
this page's concept isn't that bad ngl (and i wouldn't downvote the page if i just didn't _personally_ like the concept) but the execution is poor.
my biggest issue is with the last page with stretch.
the idea of the gods being weak to iron is really smart, and it was already put in place before. and you've connected iron to the constructions of humans which i think is extremely smart!
the issue is that it has no subtlety.
for example, this didn't need to be re-stated - the previous pages should show this.
The pantheon's prominence and importance to The Lost as a whole was self-apparent, judging by what information had been deciphered so far.
and then it… explains the concept straight up:
There was a disconnect in the narrative, and quite an interesting one at that. Why was this? Well, Overseer-A did have one theory in particular. There was evidence, although scarce, to suggest that a downfall of the gods had occurred long ago. Most specific details of this event were lost to time, but one remained consistent throughout the few surviving documentations: iron. This material was suggested to be the catalyst of the gods' downfall.
this is not very good, because the idea is one that you should be able to figure out on your own. if you read all the pages, you should be able to connect those dots without being handheld into the answer.
the excitement that you had when you first had this idea came from a connecting of dots - you should give that to the readers; this is how to make an engaging story.
Although it was only a theory, it was nonetheless compelling.
this line doesn't actually give the reader doubt as to wether stretch was right or not - but the reader can tell it's supposed to do that, so the reader feels patronised.
uh that's all i guess
