This doesn't really have anything to do with Level 494, I just put it next to it for thematic reasons.
Thank you to captaiin for critting!
Also, here's the song that the general vibe of this level was inspired by No Bird Sing - All Of Her Heart.

While the concept and idea of this level is nice (if a bit trite) there is a large amount of inconsistencies and SPAG errors that seriously get in the way of reading the article. The prose is descriptive in and of itself, but altogether is too vague to paint a cohesive picture of the level, which beaks immersion. It also straddles the line between formal and informal - to me, it looks like it can't decide whether it's a myth or a documentary, and so it muddles the purpose and moral of the article. Is it supposed to be viewed as a parable or a report?
There is some narrative within the article, but it feels like a second-thought contrived retelling of an event covered in a veneer of elaborate and eloquent prose that underneath doesn't really contain any thought-provoking substance. The "meaning" we are encouraged to find is what it represents (which is quite obvious) instead of why it represents what it is, and thus it comes off as pretty words that are meant to leave an impression only because they are pretty and not because they mean anything, and overall it feels like wasted potential.
Don't get me wrong, the article isn't bad per se, but overall it's definitely lacking in a lot of polish and cohesion. It sounds nice, but when you look deeper into it there's a vacuous space where the purpose with which it is written to portray should be. While not all levels and articles have to have a deeper meaning, it becomes really disappointing and detrimental when you intentionally hint at something more philosophical only to have it be a red herring. If there was a bit more meat and a lot less SPAG errors, I would give it an upvote, but as it stands currently I don't think this is greenlight material and I would have encouraged more work to be done before it was posted.
hi, sorry to bother you! as the greenlighter of this article i'm just… wondering where exactly the spag errors are so i can be sure to catch them better.

Sure!
Its width stretches farther than the eye can see.
Farther is used only for measurable physical distances, and since this distance cannot be measured, further is more appropriate and sounds better.
The sky is dark but cloudless, a darkness that
This phrase doesn't work, as the first clause refers to the sky, not the darkness. It would work if it was something like "The sky is cloudless and filled with a vacuous darkness, a darkness…" but here there's a conflict with subject.
On the side of the river is a ferryman.
At the side, not on the side.
They move their small boat, not with paddles,
Here is the most confusing and unreadable part of the article. The narration constantly switches back and forth between they/them pronouns and he/him pronouns for the ferryman, despite explicitly stating that the ferryman can appear as both male and female. It does so every other sentence and makes it very difficult to read properly.
On one end of his stick is a lantern;
Not much is known about the ferryman, as they don't seem much for conversation.
Like so
black coat and long unkempt beard, black, but for a few stains scattered throughout.
"But for a" is used when saying that something would have happened without the following event, so it's used improperly here.
Though, they have also appeared as a young boy with a white t-shirt and cargo shorts or a teenage girl with a floral summer dress.
They have appeared as both of these, and so or is not appropriate here, and the correct conjunction is and.
Their eyes are always grey and almost seem like they don't see anything, always seeming to look past what's in front of them;
This doesn't make sense. If they're always looking past what it's in front of them, they are looking at something, even if it's darkness.
into the distance, the darkness.
Confusing sentence fragment
and faintly visible transparency.
Confusing word choice - it seems almost like an unhelpful oxymoron.
At this point, the ferryman takes them across.
Brings up the question: If the ferryman takes one of these ghost people across, do you have to wait for them to complete the trip before boarding yourself?
Hope this helps, the amount of SPaG errors just really interrupted flow for me, especially the pronoun confusion.
Thank you! I will get to fixing that!
Im surprised more people dont talk about this one I was honestly amazed with the quality of it. It genuinely took me for a ride, pun maybe possibly intended. +1
